What is a PAC?

Political Action Committees (PACs) were created by Congress in 1976 as a means for like-minded citizens to band together to make political contributions to candidates for public office. More than 4,000 PACs are registered with the Federal Elections Commission for the purposes of educating candidates for public office on issues ranging from energy to health care to education.
